Labor Day in NYC – Friday

Labor Day weekend I visited NYC and had a whirlwind journey. Let’s try to break it down for you all here.

Friday: Friday I slept in and when I got up went to go to the Manhattan temple just a couple of blocks from where I was staying. It was closed so I went back to the apartment grabbed my things and caught a cab to a dance studio to take a ballet class. They had changed the schedule and so that failed as well. David at the Giant Bull in NYC's Bowling GreenI then went to the world trade center, the new mosque, the trinity church featured in National Treasure, and the famous bowling green bull.

I then went uptown to times square to a different studio and signed up for their basic ballet class. It was great! I then went back to the apartment, changed and went with Moving Horizons to see Billy Elliot. Such an amazing show! The set was orgasmic and the actors were brilliant. Billy almost had the show stolen from him by Michael who simply knocked his role out of the park. Billy was an awesome show that I think everyone should see. It is based on a northern English town so there is ample swearing but is a clean and awesome show.

After Billy, Horizon and I got cheesecake at Juniors and it was amazing. We then went down to the West Village near the stonewall inn to a musical open mic night called “Mostly Sondheim”. I sang “All That’s Known” from Spring Awakening. While we were waiting, we discovered that the host was from Orem and we bonded over being gay Mormons. He then got onto the stage and called us up with him where He told the crowd that we had never met and didn’t plan this at all but just to show how connected Mormons are we are going to sing a song. He started out with a prolonged “I……..” after which Horizon and I joined in singing “looked it the window and what did I see”. We sang the popcorn popping song complete with actions and blew the minds of a gay bar. How awesome was that!?!

“So three mormons walk into a gay bar” …. No it isn’t a joke.
